Linda Kanninen was born in Coventry where she learned to swim and love the water. At the age of 10 she was Warwickshire Champion in butterfly, individual medley, backstroke and freestyle. Much success in the pool followed and resulted in a Junior Olympic bronze medal.

A career as a Registered Psychiatric Nurse followed at the age of 38 she changed her focus to become an aerobics instructor - quickly returning to her love of water by teaching aquafitness.

Her enthusiasm for teaching led her to take the Certificate in Education and she has worked widely as a tutor and Education Co-ordinator for Mental Health Programmes for Bracknell and Wokingham College.

She has also worked closely with those suffering from breast cancer as well as lecturing and organising major events in partnership with the Three Counties Breast Cancer Support Group.

Linda was one of the first people to take the GP Aqua Referral Course with Aquafusion/Aquaerobics in 1999.

Following taking the Postural Stability Course for the Frail and Elderly and meeting Charlene Kopansky in the UK in 2000 Linda facilitated a partnership with Age Concern GO5O Surrey who shared the vision to promote the very best in training and education.

The workshops which followed attracted the support and interest of Bob Laventure from the British Heart Foundation who recognised instantly of the exceptional quality and opportunity these workshops provided.

Linda launched the first Water Running classes in the UK in partnership with Caldicot Masters Swimming Club with whom she obtained a grant to pilot this exciting new group fitness activity.

Overwhelming success with classes followed and continues and Linda hopes this is an inspiration for others to introduce new activities which embrace the needs and special needs of the community.

Linda also gained a 2:1 B.A(Hons) Post-compulsory Education and Training whilst bringing up three of her four children!

Links with local physiotherapists have been developed leading to Linda taking Hydrotherapy Part 1 as a guest of the local NHS Trust.

Linda has developed a close relationship with Fitness Wales who now accredit the UK workshops and courses provided by CALA UK and Darin Dieterich is a popular presenter at their conventions both on land and in the water.

Linda aims to offer more workshops and opportunities for aquafitness leaders to take vertical water training to the next level in the UK and in turn offer the community the safe, effective and enjoyable exercise it deserves.
