Instructor Certifications

Start your journey to becoming a CALA Certified Aquafit Instructor, CALA Trainer or CALA Assessor

CALA Instructor Certification Pathway

To be a CALA Instructor means to teach from the heart with passion to deliver enjoyable, caring and healing Aquafit classes.

Step 1:

  1. Check the CALA Scheduled Events for the next live VWT training or you may elect to take the Vertical Waters Training through Independent Study. Live sessions may be on-site or offered through ZOOM.  Independent Study is delivered through recordings of a live ZOOM session.

  2. Contact CALA to register for the VWT training. You will be required to complete and submit a Waiver before you are allowed to participate in a CALA training session (live or independent study)

Step 2:

  1. Complete the Vertical Waters Training (pdf) VWT Course (pre-requisite) or receive a Letter of Acceptance to Bypass VWT from CALA.

Step 3:

  1. Once you have completed the Vertical Waters (pre-requisite) Training you will choose one or more certification courses in a Specialty PATH (Path 1 or Path 2). The usual choice is to complete the Group Aquafitness Certification to gain the foundations of course design before taking the other CALA Specialty Courses.  All Certifications are based on the basics of the same class design.

Each certification has a required certification assessment requirement.

  2. Check the CALA Scheduled Events for the next live or zoom certification offering or Independent Study. Live sessions may be on-site or offered through ZOOM.  Independent Study is delivered through recordings of a live ZOOM session.

  3. Contact CALA to register for sessions of choice. You will be required to complete and submit a Waiver before you are allowed to participate in a CALA training session (live and independent study)

Step4:

  1. Maintain your membership status on an annual basis

  2. Recertification is required each year.  Recertification requires 8hours (8CECs) of training per year and recertification fee.

  3. Attend 8 hours of workshops or other specialty courses.
Note: If you attend more than 8 hours of workshops, you can bank your extra credits (CECs) and use them for future recertification. You never lose the credits that you earn. If you are unable to attend workshops or a conference, you can petition for CECs by attending other events that are related to fitness

  4. Learn more about CECs, recertification and petitioning for CECs

  5. Pay a recertification fee
